The proverbs of Solomon: A wise son makes a father rejoice, but a son who is a fool is a mother’s sorrow.

Listen to your father, this one fathered you, and do not despise your mother when she is old.

And it happened, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced exceedingly, and said, Blessed be Jehovah today, who has given to David a wise son over this great people.

And also the king has said, Blessed is Jehovah the God of Israel who has today given one sitting on my throne, and my eyes seeing it.

But you know the proof of him, that as a child to a father, he served with me for the gospel.

The eye that mocks its father and despises to obey its mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, the sons of the eagle shall eat it.

And now, do not acquit him, for you are a wise man, and you know that which you shall do to him and shall bring his old age down with blood to Sheol.

Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long on the land which Jehovah your God is giving to you.

A wise son hears his father’s instruction, but a scorner does not hear rebuke.

The way of the lazy one is like a hedge of thorns, but the path of the upright ones is lifted up.

The father of a righteous one shall greatly rejoice, and he who fathers a wise one shall even be glad in him.
