The proverbs of Solomon: A wise son makes a father rejoice, but a son who is a fool is a mother’s sorrow.

The Proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:

A man who loves wisdom gladdens his father, but one feeding ones doing adultery wastes wealth.

A son who is a fool is vexation to his father, and bitterness to her who bore him.

The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a boy sent off causes shame to his mother.

A wise son makes a glad father, but a man who is a fool despises his mother.

He who fathers a fool falls into sorrow for it; yea, the father of a foolish one will not be joyful.

A son who is a fool is calamity to his father, and the drippings of a woman is a continuing dripping.

And more than that, the Preacher was wise; he still more taught the people knowledge; and gave ear, and sought out and set in order many proverbs.

And who knows if he will be wise or a fool? Yet he shall rule among all my labor in which I labored, and acted wisely under the sun. This is also vanity.

And he spoke three thousand proverbs, and his songs were a thousand and five.

A wise son hears his father’s instruction, but a scorner does not hear rebuke.

My son, become wise and give joy to my heart, so that I may return a word to one taunting me.

Discipline your son, and you will get rest, and it will give delight to your soul.
