For Heshbon was the city of Sihon king of the Amorites. And he had fought against the former king of Moab and had taken his land out of his hand, to Arnon.

Your neck is like an ivory tower; your eyes like the fishpools in Heshbon, by the gate of Bath-rabbim. Your nose is like a tower of Lebanon, peering toward the face of Damascus.

Your head is like Carmel, and the hair of your head like purple cloth; the King is held captive in its flowing.

Moab shall not still be praised. In Heshbon they have plotted evil against it, saying, Come and let us cut it off as a nation. And you shall be silenced, O madmen; a sword will go after you,

Moab is put to shame, for it is shattered. Wail and cry! Declare it in Arnon that Moab is ruined.

Those who fled stood powerless in the shadow of Heshbon, for a fire shall go out of Heshbon, and a flame out of the midst of Sihon, and shall devour the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the sons of tumult.

And Israel took all these cities. And Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorite, in Heshbon and in all its daughter- villages.

On account of this the parable speakers say, Come to Heshbon! Let the city of Sihon be built and established!

after he had stricken Sihon the king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, who lived in Ashtaroth in Edrei,

and their border was from Aroer on the lip of the torrent Arnon, and the city which is in the middle of the valley, and all the plain by Medeba:

Heshbon, and all its cities in the tableland; Dibon, and Bamoth-baal, and Bethbaal- meon;

And their border was to Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half of the land of the sons of Ammon, to Aroer, which is before Rabbah;

Heshbon and its open lands, Jazer and its open lands; four cities in all.

When Israel lived in Heshbon and its daughter-towns, and in Aroer and in its daughter-towns, in all the cities by the sides of Arnon three hundred years, then why have you not delivered them in that time?
