Nehemiah 8:9

King James 3 - The Literal Traslation

And Nehemiah the governor, and Ezra the priest, the scribe, and the Levites who made the people to understand, to all the people, This day is holy to Jehovah your God. Do not mourn or weep, For all the people were weeping when they heard the words of the Law.

because your heart was tender, and you have bowed before Jehovah when you heard what I spoke against this place, and against the ones living in it, to become a desolation and a curse, and have torn your clothes, and have wept before Me; even also I have heard, a statement of Jehovah.

Yea, Israel has been without a true God many days, and without a teaching priest, and without Law.

And the governor said to them that they should not eat of the most holy things until a priest stood up with Urim and Thummim.

And this is the copy of the letter which the king, Artaxerxes, gave to Ezra the priest, the scribe, a scribe of the words of the commands of Jehovah, and of His statutes to Israel:

And the ones being sealed were Nehemiah the governor, the son of Hachaliah, and Zidkijah,

These were in the days of Joiakim the son of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and in the days of Nehemiah the governor, and of Ezra the priest, the scribe.

And the governor said to them that they should not eat of the most holy things until there stood up a priest with Urim and Thummim.

And some of the heads of the fathers gave to the work. The governor gave to the treasury a thousand darics of gold, fifty basins, five hundred and thirty-five priests’ garments.

And Ezra the priest brought the Law before the congregation, both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, on the first day of the seventh month.

a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to lament, and a time to dance;

to appoint to the mourning ones of Zion, to give them beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of the spirit of infirmity, so that one calls them trees of righteousness, the planting of Jehovah, in order to beautify Himself.

My people are cut off for lack of knowledge; because you rejected the knowledge, I also rejected you from being priest to Me. Since you have forgotten the Law of your God, I will forget your sons, even I.

Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, on the first of the month, a sabbath shall be to you, a called memorial, a holy gathering.

And this is a second thing you do: covering the altar of Jehovah with tears, with weeping and groaning, yet not facing toward the food offering, and taking it with delight from your hand.

Because by works of law not will be justified all flesh before Him, for through law is full knowledge of sin. Psa. 143:2

And I lived apart from Law once, but the commandment coming, and sin came alive again, and I died.

And you shall rejoice before Jehovah your God, you and your sons, and your daughters, and your male slaves, and your female slaves, and the Levite within your gates because he has no portion or inheritance with you.

And you shall eat there before Jehovah your God, and shall rejoice in all that you put your hand to, you and your households, with which Jehovah your God has blessed you.

And you shall rejoice before Jehovah your God, you and your son, and your daughter, and your male slave, and your slave-girl, and the Levite that is inside your gates, and the alien, and the fatherless, and the widow, all that are among you, in the place which Jehovah your God shall choose to cause His name to dwell there.

I have not eaten of it in my sorrow; and not have I consumed any of it for uncleanness; nor have I given of it for the one who died. I have listened to the voice of Jehovah my God. I have done according to all that You have commanded me.

Be distressed, and mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy into shame.
