Nehemiah 8:1

King James 3 - The Literal Traslation

And all the people gathered as one man into the plaza before the Water Gate. And they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which Jehovah had commanded to Israel.

And the king went up to the house of Jehovah, and every man of Judah, and all the ones living in Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, from small to great; and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of Jehovah.

And Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the Book of the Law in the house of Jehovah. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan.

And the king went up to the house of Jehovah and every man of Judah, and those living in Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the ones living there from the great to the small; and he read in their ears all the words of the Book of the Covenant found in the house of Jehovah.

And after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes the king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,

For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of Jehovah, and to do it, and to teach statutes and judgments in Israel.

And this is the copy of the letter which the king, Artaxerxes, gave to Ezra the priest, the scribe, a scribe of the words of the commands of Jehovah, and of His statutes to Israel:

this Ezra went up from Babylon. And he was a skilled scribe in the Law of Moses, which Jehovah the God of Israel had given. And the king granted him all he asked, according to the hand of Jehovah his God on him.

These were in the days of Joiakim the son of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and in the days of Nehemiah the governor, and of Ezra the priest, the scribe.

And at the Fountain Gate across from them, they went up by the stairs of the city of David, at the going up of the wall above the house of David, even to the Water Gate eastward.

And the temple-slaves lived in Ophel, across from the Water Gate toward the east, and the tower that goes out.

And the people went out and brought in, and made booths for themselves, a man on his roof and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the plaza of the Water Gate, and in the plaza of the Ephraim Gate.

And he read in it before the plaza which was in front of the Water Gate, from the morning until the middle of the day, before the men and the women, and those understanding. And the ears of all the people listened to the Book of the Law.

To the Law and to the Testimony! If they do not speak according to this Word, it is because there is no dawn to them!

And they took that which Moses had commanded to the front of the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the congregation drew near and stood before Jehovah.

Remember the Law of My servant Moses which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel, the statutes and judgments.

And He said to them, Because of this, every scribe schooled to the kingdom of Heaven is like a man, a master of a house, who puts forth out of his treasure new and old.

But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of Heaven before men; for you do not enter, nor do you allow those entering to go in.

saying, The scribes and the Pharisees have sat down on Moses’ seat.

Because of this, behold, I send to you prophets and wise ones and scribes. And some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and will persecute from city to city;

when all Israel comes in to see the face of Jehovah in the place which He chooses, you shall proclaim this Law before all Israel, in their ears.

And all the sons of Israel went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, and the land of Gilead, to Jehovah at Mizpeh.

And all the people rose up as one man, saying, Not one of us shall go to his tent, and not one of us shall return to his house.
