The godly one has perished from the earth, and the upright one is not among mankind. All of them lie in wait for blood; each man hunts his brother with a net.
To the chief musician, on eight. A Psalm of David. Help, O Jehovah, for the godly one ceases to be; for ones being faithful fail from among the sons of men.
And the people shall be oppressed man against man, and a man against his neighbor. The boy will act insolently against the old one, and the one being despised against the one being honored.
The righteous one perishes, and no man lays it on his heart; yea, merciful men are gathered, with no one discerning that the righteous one is gathered from the face of evil.
Behold, I will send for many fishermen, a statement of Jehovah. And they shall fish them. And after this I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt them, from every mountain and from every hill, and out of the clefts of the rocks.
I listened and heard. They did not speak so. No man repented because of this evil way, saying, What have I done? Everyone turned in their own courses, as a horse rushes into the battle.
In you they have taken bribes in order to pour out blood. You have taken interest and increase, and you have gained by extortion of your neighbor. And you have forgotten Me, a statement of the Lord Jehovah.
So the Lord Jehovah says this: Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose rust is in it, and its rust has not gone out of it! Bring it out piece by piece. Let not a lot fall on it.
Hear this, O priests, and attend, house of Israel. And give ear, house of the king. For the judgment is toward you, because you have been a snare to Mizpeh, and a net spread on Tabor.
Even yesterday My people have risen up like an enemy. You strip off from before a garment, a cloak, from those passing by securely, those returning from war.
For I will not again pity those living in the land, a statement of Jehovah. But, behold! I will cause to be found the men, each man into his neighbor’s hand, and into his king’s hand. And they shall crush the land, and I will not deliver out of their hand.
And my father, behold! Yes, see the skirt of your robe in my hand. For in that I cut off the skirt of your robe, and did not kill you, know and see that there is not evil and transgression in my hand, and I have not sinned against you. Yet you are lying in wait for my soul, to take it.
And now, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of Jehovah, for the king of Israel has come out to seek one flea, as one hunts the partridge in the mountains.
