For Herod feared John, knowing him to be a holy and just man, and kept him safe. And hearing him, he did many things, and gladly heard from him.

And this is the dream I, king Nebuchadnezzar, have seen. And you, O Belteshazzar, speak to me its meaning. All accordingly all this the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known the meaning to me. But you are able, for the spirit of the holy gods is in you.

So, O king, let my counsel be pleasing to you: Even break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by pitying the humble one, whether there will be duration to your prosperity.

Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let your gifts be to yourself, and give your rewards to another. Yet I will read the writing to the king, and make known the meaning of the thing to him.

And desiring to kill him, he feared the multitude, because they held him as a prophet.

But if we should say, From men, we fear the people. For all hold John to be a prophet.

And the scribes and the chief priests heard. And they sought how they might destroy Him, for they feared Him, because all the crowd was astonished at His doctrine.

And likewise, these are the ones being sown on the rocky places, who, when they hear the Word, they immediately receive it with joy,

That one was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to exult in his light for an hour.

And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, What wishes this to be?

And when they heard these words, both the priest and the temple commander and the chief priests were perplexed about them, what this might come to be.
