And coming, they said to Him, Teacher, we know that You are true, and there is not a care to You about anyone, for You do not look to the face of men, but teach the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth, and it does not concern You about anyone, for You do not look to the face of men.

Then tell us, what do You think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

And they sent some of the Pharisees and of the Herodians to Him, that they might catch Him in a word.

Should we give, or should we not give? But knowing their hypocrisy, He said to them, Why do you tempt Me? Bring Me a denarius that I may see.

And coming, at once drawing near to Him, he said, Rabbi, Rabbi! And he ardently kissed Him.

Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar or not?

And they began to accuse Him, saying, we found this man perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying Himself to be Christ, a king.

The one speaking from himself seeks his own glory. But the one seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, this One is true, and unrighteousness is not in Him.

For on this account you also pay taxes, for they are ministers of God, attending continually to this very thing.

For we are not as the many, peddling the Word of God; but as of sincerity, but as of God. We speak in Christ before God.

For if I grieve you, who yet will be making me glad, if not the one being grieved by me?

Because of this, having this ministry, even as we obtained mercy, we do not fail in heart.

Therefore knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, and we have been made known to God; and I also hope to have been known in your consciences.

So as we now know no one according to flesh, but even if we have known Christ according to flesh, yet now we no longer know Him so.

For do I now persuade men or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I yet pleased men, I would not be a slave of Christ.

But from the ones thought to be something (of what kind they were then does not matter to me; God does not accept the face of man), for the ones thought to be pillars conferred nothing to me;

You shall not pervert judgment. You shall not regard faces, and you shall not take a bribe; for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise, and perverts the words of the righteous ones.

but even as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak not as pleasing men, but God, the One trying our hearts.
