Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the chief seat in the synagogues and the greetings in the marketplaces.
Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like little children sitting in the markets, and calling to their companions,
Be on guard from the scribes, the ones desiring to walk about in long robes, and loving greetings in the markets, and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief couches in the suppers,
in brotherly love toward one another, loving tenderly, going before one another in honor;
doing nothing according to intrigue or self-glory, but in humility, esteeming one another, as being better than themselves;
I wrote to the assembly, but the one loving to be first of them, Diotrephes, does not receive us.
