They sit on the ground; the elders of Zion’s daughters are silent. They made dust go up on their heads, they gird on sackcloths. The virgins of Jerusalem let their heads go down to the ground.

How alone sits the city that was full of people! She has become like a widow, one great among the nations; a noblewoman among the provinces has become a payer of tribute.

The roads of Zion are in mourning without any going to the appointed feasts. All her gates are laid desolate; her priests are groaning, her virgins are afflicted; and she is in bitterness.

He sits alone and is silent, for He laid it on him.

The face of Jehovah has divided them out; He will not continue to look on them. They did not lift up the face of the priests, they did not favor the elders.

Those who ate delicacies are desolate in the outside places; those reared on scarlet embrace dunghills.

and will make heard their voice against you, and will cry bitterly, and will cause dust to go up on their heads; they will wallow in the ashes.

And they shall be made bald for you and gird with sackcloth; and they shall weep for you with bitterness of soul, a bitter wailing.

They shall also gird on sackcloth, and trembling shall cover them. And shame shall be on all faces, and baldness on all heads.

Wail like a virgin girded with sackcloth over the husband of her youth.

So he acting wisely shall keep silent in that time, for it is an evil time.

In that day the beautiful virgins and the young men shall faint with thirst.

And they will howl the songs of the temple in that day, a statement of the Lord Jehovah. The corpses shall be many; in every place one shall throw them out, saying, Hush!

And the word touched even to the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he passed his robe from him and covered himself with sackcloth and sat on the ashes.

And Joshua tore his clothing, and fell on his face to the earth before the ark of Jehovah until the evening, he and the elders of Israel. And they threw dust on their heads.

And they threw dust on their heads, and cried out, weeping and mourning, saying, Woe! Woe to the great city, by which all the ones having ships in the sea were rich, from her costliness, because in one hour she was laid waste.
