And God saw their deeds, that they turned back from their evil way. And God was moved to pity of the evil that He had spoken to do to them, and He did not do it.
And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it. And as he was destroying, Jehovah saw, and had pity over the evil, and said to the destroying angel, Enough! Now stay your hand. And the angel of Jehovah stood by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
And therefore Jehovah waits to be gracious to you. And for this He is exalted to have mercy on you; for Jehovah is a God of judgment. Blessed are all who wait for Him.

And he prayed to Jehovah, and said, Please, O Jehovah, was this not my word while I was on my own land? On account of this at first I fled to Tarshish, for I knew that You are a gracious God and compassionate, slow to anger, and great of mercy, and One who has pity over calamity.
Men, Ninevites will rise up in the Judgment with this generation, and will condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah. And, behold, a Greater-than-Jonah is here.
And rising up, he came to his father. But he yet being far away, his father saw him and was moved with compassion. And running, he fell on his neck and fervently kissed him.
