Joel 2:17

King James 3 - The Literal Traslation

Let the priests, ministers of Jehovah, weep between the porch and the altar; and let them say, Have pity on Your people, O Jehovah, and do not give Your inheritance to shame, for a proverb among those of the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, Where is their God?

As to the porch on the front of the temple of the house, its length was twenty cubits according to the breadth of the house; its breadth on the front of the house was ten cubits.

then I shall cut off Israel from the face of the land that I have given to them, and the house that I have sanctified for My name I shall send away from My face, and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

then I shall pluck them up from off My land that I have given them, and this house that I have sanctified for My name I shall cast away from before My face, and I shall give it for a proverb and a gibe among all the nations.

Then Solomon offered burnt offerings to Jehovah on the altar of Jehovah that he had built before the porch,

Why do the nations say, Where is their God now?

With shattering in my bones ones distressing me reproach me, when they say to me every day, Where is your God?

O my soul, why are you cast down? And why do you moan within me? Hope in God, for I yet thank Him for the salvations of my face and my God.

My tears have been my food by day and by night, while they say to me all the day, Where is your God?

When I remember these things and I pour out my soul on me (for I passed over with the throng; I led them to the house of God with the voice of rejoicing and praise, a host keeping the feast).

O God, until when shall the enemy reproach You? Shall the adversary scorn Your name forever?

Why should the nations say, Where is their God? Let Him be known among the nations before our eyes, the avenging of the blood of Your servants that has been poured out.

We have become a shame to our neighbors a scorn and a mockery to those who are around us.

All who pass by the way plunder him; he is a reproach to his neighbors.

with which Your enemies have reproached, O Jehovah; with which they have cursed the footsteps of Your Anointed.

And he said, If now I have found favor in Your eyes, O Lord, please let my Lord go in our midst, for it is a stiffnecked people; and You forgive our iniquity and our sin, and take us as a possession.

And in that day the Lord Jehovah of Hosts called to weeping and mourning; and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth.

And now, O Jehovah our God, save us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are Jehovah, You alone.

But I worked for My name’s sake, that it should not be profaned in the eyes of the nations of whom they were among them, of whom I made Myself known to them in their eyes, by bringing them out of the land of Egypt.

And he brought me into the inner court of the house of Jehovah. And, behold, at the opening of the temple of Jehovah, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs to the temple of Jehovah, and their faces eastward. And they bowed themselves eastward to the sun.

Take words with you and return to Jehovah. Say to Him, Lift up all iniquity and take us for good, and we will repay with the calves of our lips.

Gird up and lament, priests. Howl, ministers of the altar. Come, pass the night in sackcloth, ministers of my God. For the food offering and the drink offering are held back from the house of your God.

The food offering and the drink offering have been cut off from the house of Jehovah; the priests, Jehovah’s ministers, mourn.

And it happened when it had made an end of eating the green plant of the land, even I said, Lord Jehovah, I pray, forgive. How can Jacob rise up? For he is small.

And I said, Lord Jehovah, I pray, stop. How can Jacob rise up? For he is small.

And my enemy shall see; and shame shall cover her, the one saying to me, Where is He, Jehovah your God? My eyes shall see her. Now she shall be for a trampling, as the mud of the streets.

And now please entreat the face of God, that He favor us. This has been by your hands; will He lift up your faces? says Jehovah of Hosts.

And, behold! A man of the sons of Israel came and brought in to his brothers a woman of Midian, before the eyes of Moses and before the eyes of all the congregation of the sons of Israel weeping at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

so that should come on you all the righteous blood poured out on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Berechiah whom you murdered between the Holy Place and the altar.

He trusted on God. Let Him rescue Him now, if He desires Him. For He said, I am Son of God.

And you shall be an astonishment, a proverb and a byword among all the peoples where Jehovah shall lead you.

saying, Were it not the provocation of an enemy I feared, that their foes should judge amiss, that they might not say, Our hand is high, and Jehovah has not done all this.

And the Canaanites, and all the ones living in the land shall hear, and shall come around against us, and shall cut off our name out of the earth. And what shall You do for Your great name?
