What is man that he should be clean? Or he born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

And to man He said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom! And to turn from evil is understanding.

taking the wise ones in their craftiness, and the counsel of the wily ones is hurried.

Does the wild ass bray over tender grass? Or does the ox low over his fodder?

Man is like to vanity; his days are like a shadow that passes.

You correct a man with rebukes over iniquity; and as a moth You melt away what he desires. Surely every man is vanity. Selah.

Behold, like a handbreadth You gave my days; even my life was non-existence before You; surely every man standing is all vanity. Selah.

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me.

Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity!

And turn aside frustration from your heart, and cause evil purpose to pass from your flesh. For childhood and prime of life are vanity.

I said in my heart concerning the matter of the sons of men, that God may purge them and see that they are beasts, they by themselves.

a wild ass used to the wilderness. In the passion of her desire she snuffs up the wind in her time. Who can turn her away? All those who seek her will not tire themselves; in her month they will find her.

Professing to be wise ones, they became foolish

be mindful of the same thing toward one another, not being mindful of high things, but be accommodating to the lowly. Do not become wise among yourselves;

among whom we also all conducted ourselves in times past in the lusts of our flesh, acting out the wills of the flesh and of the understandings, and were by nature the children of wrath, even as the rest.

But are you willing to know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is dead?
