My soul loathes my life; I will leave my complaint on myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

Who will grant that You would hide me in Sheol; You would conceal me until Your anger turns back; that You would set a limit for me and remember me?

In famine He will redeem you from death; and in war from the hand of the sword.

I despise them; I will not live always. Cease from me, for my days are vanity.

though I were the perfect one, I would not know my own soul; I despise my life.

What shall I say? For He speaks to me, and He has acted. I shall go softly all my years over the bitterness of my soul.

Behold, for peace was bitter to me, yea, bitter, but You loved my soul from the pit of destruction; You have cast all my sins behind Your back.

And now, O Jehovah, please take my life from me. For better is my death than my life.

And it happened when the sun shone, God had appointed a scorching east wind; and the sun struck Jonah’s head, so that he fainted; and he asked for his life to death. And he said, Better is my death than my life.

and if You deal thus with me, I pray quickly kill me, if I have found grace in Your eyes, and let me not look on my affliction.
