Jeremiah 22:5

King James 3 - The Literal Traslation

But if you will not hear these words, I swear by Myself, a statement of Jehovah, that this house shall become a ruin.

And He said, I have sworn by Myself,a statement of Jehovah, that because of this thing you have done, and have not withheld your son, your only son,

and if you turn away, and you shall forsake My commandments and My statutes that I have placed before you, and shall go and serve other gods and shall bow yourselves to them,

And this house that was on high shall be a wonder to everyone who passes by it, they shall shudder and say, Why has Jehovah done this to this land and to this house?

And they shall say, Because they have forsaken Jehovah, the God of their fathers, who brought them out from the land of Egypt, and have laid hold on other gods and have bowed themselves to them, and served them; on account of this He has brought on them all this evil.

to whom I swore in My anger, They shall not enter into My rest.

but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword; for the mouth of Jehovah has spoken.

I have forsaken My house; I have left My inheritance. I have given the beloved of My soul into the palm of her enemies.

But if you will not listen to Me to keep the sabbath day holy, even to not lift up a burden and enter at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day, then I will kindle a fire in her gates. And it shall devour the fortresses of Jerusalem, and shall not be put out.

And you shall say to them, So says Jehovah, If you will not listen to Me, to walk in My Law which I have set before you,

And the Chaldeans burned the king’s house and the houses of the people with fire and broke down the walls of Jerusalem.

So hear the Word of Jehovah, all Judah who sojourn in the land of Egypt: Behold, I have sworn by My great name, says Jehovah, that My name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord Jehovah lives.

The Lord Jehovah has sworn by Himself, a statement of Jehovah, the God of Hosts: I abhor the pride of Jacob, and hate his palaces; and I will shut up the city and its fullness.

Therefore, on account of you, Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the house into high places of the forest.

Behold, “your house is left to you desolate.” Jer. 22:5

And to whom did “He swear” “they would not enter into His rest,” except to the ones having disobeyed? LXX-Psa. 94:11; MT-Psa. 95:11

For God having made promise to Abraham, since He had no greater to swear by, “He swore by Himself,”

In which God purposing to more fully declare to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose, He interposed by an oath,
