And in the time of his distressing he acted more unfaithfully against Jehovah, this King Ahaz.

And he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus who had struck him, and said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria are helping them, I will sacrifice to them that they may help me; but they were to cause him and all Israel to stumble.

For You have forsaken Your people, the house of Jacob, because they are filled from the east, and are spirit-knowers like the Philistines. And they clap hands with children of those being foreign.

You were wearied in the length of your way; you did not say, Despair! You found the life of your hand, so you were not sick.

What will you say when He calls you to account? For you taught them to be chiefs over you for a head. Will not birth pangs seize you like a woman bearing?

And if you say in your heart, Why do these things meet me? It is because of the greatness of your iniquity. Your skirts are bared; your heels suffer violence.

So says Jehovah to this people: So they have loved to wander; they have not restrained their feet; even Jehovah will not be pleased with them. He will now recall their iniquity and call their sins to account.

But they say, It is hopeless. For we will walk after our own thoughts, and we will each man do according to the stubbornness of his evil heart.

O generation, see the Word of Jehovah. Have I been a wilderness to Israel, or a land of darkness? Why do My people say, We roam; we will come no more to You.

Go up to Lebanon and cry. And lift up your voice in Bashan, and cry out from Abarim; for all those loving you are broken.

I spoke to you in your prosperity, but you said, I will not hear. This has been your way from your youth, for you have not obeyed My voice.

Only know your iniquity, that you have transgressed against Jehovah your God and have scattered your ways to strangers under every green tree, and you have not obeyed My voice, a statement of Jehovah.

But doing we will do whatever thing goes out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of the heavens, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings, and our rulers, in the cities of Judah and in the outside places of Jerusalem. And we were satisfied with food, and were well, and saw no evil thing.

She bitterly weeps in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks. She has no one out of all the ones loving her. All her friends dealt deceitfully with her; they became enemies to her.

The tongue of the nursling cleaves to his palate in thirst. The young children ask bread, but there is no breaking for them.

And what comes upon your spirit shall surely not be, that you say, We will be like the nations, like the families of the lands, to serve wood and stone.

lest I strip her naked and set her out as in the day that she was born, and make her as the wilderness, and place her like a dry land, and kill her with thirst.

For their mother has prostituted herself; she who conceived them has acted shamefully. For she said, I will go after my lovers who give my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.

You have said, It is vanity to serve God. And, What unjust profit is it that we have kept His charge, and that we have walked as mourners before Jehovah of Hosts?

But the father said to his slaves, Bring out the best robe and clothe him, and give a ring to his hand and sandals to his feet.

And calling he said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am tormented in this flame.

for we were saved by hope, but hope being seen is not hope; for what anyone sees, why does he also hope?

and you shall serve your enemies whom Jehovah shall send on you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in lack of all things. And He shall put an iron yoke on your neck until He has destroyed you.

With strange gods they moved Him to jealousy; and with disgusting things they provoked Him to anger.
