Woe to those who rise early in the morninog pursue fermented drink, tarrying in the twilight while wine inflames them!

I am a son of eighty years today. Can I distinguish between good and evil? Can your servant taste that which I am eating, and that which I drink? Can I any more listen to the voice of singing men and singing women? And why should your servant be any more as a burden to my lord the king?

Wine is a mocker, strong liquor is stirring, and each one straying by it is not being wise.

at its last it bites like a snake, and it stings like a viper.

But behold, joy and gladness, slaying oxen and slaughtering sheep; eating flesh and drinking wine, saying, Eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!

They shall not drink wine with the song; fermented liquor shall be bitter to those who drink it.

And also, wine indeed betrays a proud man, and he dwells not at home; who wid ens his soul like Sheol; and he is like death, and is not satisfied, but gathers all the nations to himself, and collects all the peoples to himself.

But take heed to yourselves that your hearts not be loaded down with headaches, and drinking, and anxieties of life, and that day come suddenly upon you.

Let us walk becomingly, as in the day, not in revelries and drunkenness, not in cohabitations and lustful acts, not in strife and envy.

nor thieves, nor covetous ones, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor rapacious ones shall inherit the kingdom of God.
