And how will you turn back the face of one governor of the least of the servants of my lord, that you trust for yourself upon Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
For the Lord had caused the Syrian army to hear a sound of chariots, and a sound of horses, and a sound of a great army. And they said to one another, Behold, the king of Israel has hired the kings of the Hittites against us, and the kings of Egypt, to come against us.
And Egypt is a man, and not God. And their horses are flesh, and not spirit. And Jehovah stretches out His hand, and both he who helps shall stumble, and he who is helped shall fall; and together they all shall be finished.
Behold, you trust on the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt, which if a man leans on it, it goes into his palm and pierces it; so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.
And now please exchange pledges with my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able to set riders on them for you.
Only, he shall not heap up horses to himself, nor cause the people to turn back to Egypt so as to heap up horses, since Jehovah has said to you, You shall not again turn back in this way any more.
