for the palace is left alone; the crowd of the city is forsaken; mound and tower are instead caves, until forever; a joy of wild asses; pasture for flocks;
And after this he built an outer wall to the city of David, on the west of Gihon, in the valley, and turned around Ophel, and he made it exceedingly high, and he put commanders of the army in all the cities he had in Judah.
For the fortified city shall be lonely, a forsaken pasture, left alone and forsaken like a wilderness. The calf shall feed there, and he shall lie there and eat up its branches.
And I said, Until when, O Lord? And He said, Until cities lie desolate without one living in them, and the houses without man, and the land is laid waste, a desolation;
For so says Jehovah, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are broken down to defend against the siege mounds, and against the sword,
lest I strip her naked and set her out as in the day that she was born, and make her as the wilderness, and place her like a dry land, and kill her with thirst.
Therefore, on account of you, Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the house into high places of the forest.
This is the joyful city, dwelling confidently, the one saying in her heart, I am, and none other still is. How she has become a ruin, a resting place for animals! Everyone who passes near her shall hiss; he shall shake his hand!
And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed on them. In the houses of Ashkelon, they shall lie down in the evening, for Jehovah their God shall care for them and turn back their captivity.
And they will fall by the mouth of the sword and will be led captive into all the nations. And Jerusalem will be trodden down by nations, until the times of the nations are fulfilled.
