Isaiah 31:1

King James 3 - The Literal Traslation

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, and lean on horses, and trust on chariotry, because it is great; and in horsemen because they are very strong! But they do not look to the Holy One of Israel, and do not seek Jehovah.

And they brought in their livestock to Joseph. And Joseph gave bread to them for the horses, and for the livestock of the flocks, for the livestock of the herds, and for the asses. And he satisfied them with bread in that year for all their livestock.

And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa the king of Judah and said to him, Because you leaned on the king of Syria, and you have not leaned on Jehovah your God, therefore the army of the king of Syria has escaped from your hand.

For the eyes of Jehovah go to and fro in all the earth in order to be strong for those with their heart perfect toward Him. You have acted foolishly in this. so from now on there shall be wars with you.

Will you trust him because his strength is great; or will you leave your labor to him?

These trust in the chariot, and these in horses, but we will make mention in the name of Jehovah our God.

And the Light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame; and it shall burn and devour his thorns and briers in one day.

And his land is filled with silver and gold. There is no end of his treasures. And his land is full of horses; his chariots also do not have an end.

And they shall be dismayed and ashamed of their hope Ethiopia, and of their glory Egypt.

And you made a reservoir between the walls, for the water of the old pool. But you did not look to its Maker, and you did not see its Former from long ago.

For you said, No! For we will flee on a horse. Therefore you shall flee. Also, you say, We will ride on swift ones. On account of this, those who pursue you shall be swift ones.

Behold, you trust on the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt, which if a man leans on it, it goes into his palm and pierces it; so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.

How then will you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put your trust in Egypt for chariotry and horsemen?

I am Jehovah, your Holy One, the One creating Israel, your King.

And the lyre and the harp, the timbrel and flute, and wine are at their feasts, but they do not look upon the work of Jehovah; yea, they do see. Therefore My people will go into exile without knowledge, and his men of glory into famine; and his multitude is parched with thirst.

And you went to the king with oil and multiplied your perfumes. And you sent your messengers far away, and lowered yourself to Sheol.

And there is not one who calls on Your name, who stirs himself up to take hold of You. For You have hidden Your face from us, and have melted us away into the hand of our iniquities.

Syrians in front, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with all the mouth. In all this His anger does not turn back, but His hand is still stretched out.

For the people do not turn back to Him who strikes them, and they do not seek Jehovah of Hosts.

So says Jehovah, Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and who makes flesh his arm, and who turns aside his heart from Jehovah.

For My people have done two evils: they have forsaken Me, the Fountain of living waters, to hew out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.

So says Jehovah, the God of Israel, You shall say this to the king of Judah who sent you to Me to inquire of Me: Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which has come out to help you, shall turn back into his own land of Egypt.

saying, No, but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war or hear the sound of the rams’ horn. And we will not hunger for bread, and there we will live.

But he rebelled against him in sending his messengers to Egypt, to give horses and many people to him. Shall he prosper? Shall he who does these things escape? Or shall he break the covenant and be delivered?

And it shall not be any more as confidence for the house of Israel, recalling the iniquity of their turning after them. And they shall know that I am the Lord Jehovah.

As it is written in the Law of Moses, all this evil has come on us. And we have not made our prayer before the face of Jehovah our God that we might turn from our iniquities and understand Your truth.

He shall not turn back to the land of Egypt, but he of Assyria shall be his king, because they refused to turn back.

I will not execute the heat of My anger; I will not return to destroy Ephraim. For I am God, and not a man, the Holy One in your midst. And I will not enter into the city.

Assyria shall not save us; we will not ride on horses. We shall not say any more to the work of our hands, Our gods! For in You the fatherless finds mercy.

They are all hot as an oven, and devour their judges. All their kings have fallen; not one among them calls to Me.

Are You not from aforetime, Jehovah our God, my Holy One? We shall not die, Jehovah, for You have appointed him for judgment. And, my Rock, You have established him to correct.

God comes from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His majesty covers the heavens, and His praise fills the earth.

And they shall be like mighty ones who trample the mud of the open places in the battle. And they shall fight because Jehovah is with them, and they shall make the riders of horses ashamed.

Only, he shall not heap up horses to himself, nor cause the people to turn back to Egypt so as to heap up horses, since Jehovah has said to you, You shall not again turn back in this way any more.

When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots, a people more than you, you shall not fear them. For Jehovah your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
