For, behold, the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, is turning aside from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread and the whole stay of water;

On the ninth of the month, when the famine was severe in the city, and there was no bread for the people of the land,

And He called a famine on the land; He broke the whole staff of bread.

Therefore, a statement of the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Alas! I will be eased of My adversaries, and avenge Myself of My enemies.

Cease yourself from man, whose breath is in his nostril, for in what is he to be esteemed?

And Jehovah says, Because are being proud the daughters of Zion, and walk with stretched out necks and wanton eyes, walking and skipping as they go, and make a tinkling with their feet;

But the chief cupbearer said, Has my master sent me to your master and to you to speak these words? Is it not on the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink the water of their feet with you?

So says your Lord Jehovah and your God, He strives for His people. Behold, I have taken the cup of reeling out of your hand, the bowl of the cup of My fury; you shall not yet again drink it.

And he cuts off on the right hand, yet is hungry. And he eats on the left, but they shall not be satisfied; each man shall eat the flesh of his own arm;

And Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him a piece of bread out of the baker’s street daily, until all the bread of the city was gone. And Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison until the day Jerusalem was taken, and he was there when Jerusalem was taken.

My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have thrown into the pit. And he may die in his place because of the famine, for there is no more bread in the city.

For it was because of the anger of Jehovah in Jerusalem and Judah that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon, until Jehovah had cast them out from His face.

And in the fourth month, in the ninth of the month, the famine was severe in the city, so that there was no food for the people of the land.

We have drunk our water for silver; our wood comes for a price.

Son of man, when a land sins against Me, by doing an unfaithful act, then I will stretch out My hand on it, and I will shatter the staff of bread to it, and I will send famine on it. And I will cut off from it man and beast.

When I break to you the staff of bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and shall give back your bread by weight; and you shall eat, and shall not be satisfied.

And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in all your places; and you have not returned to Me, a statement of Jehovah.

Now why do you cry aloud, an outcry? Is there not a king among you? Has one advising you perished? For pain has seized you like one giving birth.
