Howl, O gate! Cry, O city! Philistia is melted away, all of you. For a smoke comes from the north, and not one is separated in his ranks.

for the palace is left alone; the crowd of the city is forsaken; mound and tower are instead caves, until forever; a joy of wild asses; pasture for flocks;

Though it hails when the forest comes down, and the city is laid low in low places,

I will go before you and make hills level; I will tear apart the bronze doors, and cut the iron bars in two.

And I will give Jerusalem to be a heap of ruins, a den of jackals; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, not [one] living in it.

How alone sits the city that was full of people! She has become like a widow, one great among the nations; a noblewoman among the provinces has become a payer of tribute.

The roads of Zion are in mourning without any going to the appointed feasts. All her gates are laid desolate; her priests are groaning, her virgins are afflicted; and she is in bitterness.

Her gates have sunk in the earth, He made perish and shattered her bars. Her kings and her rulers are among the nations. The Law is not. Also her prophets have not found a vision from Jehovah.

Zion is laid waste on the mountain; foxes walk about on it.

For the one living in Maroth grieved for good, for evil came down from Jehovah to the gate of Jerusalem.

For her wounds are incurable; for it has come to Judah; it has reached to the gate of My people, to Jerusalem.

And hearing, the king became angry. And sending his armies, he destroyed those murderers and burned up their city.
