And it happened when King Hezekiah heard, he tore his garments and was covered with sackcloth. And he went into the house of Jehovah.

And he sent Eliakim, who was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz.

They say, Why have we fasted, and You did not see? We have afflicted our soul, and You did not know. Behold, on the day of your fast you find pleasure; and you drive all your laborers hard.

Both the great and the small shall die in this land. They shall not be buried, and not they will mourn for them, and not cut himself, and not make himself bald for them.

And you shall not go into the house of feasting, to sit with them to eat and drink.

Put on sackcloth for this, wail and howl. For the the anger of Jehovah has not turned back from us.

Cut off your crown and cast it away, and lift up a dirge on the heights. For Jehovah has rejected and forsaken the generation of His wrath.

And they shall be made bald for you and gird with sackcloth; and they shall weep for you with bitterness of soul, a bitter wailing.

Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his nobles. And he drank wine before the thousand.

O Israel, do not rejoice for joy, like the peoples. For you have fornicated away from your God. You have loved hire on all threshing-floors of grain.

Gird up and lament, priests. Howl, ministers of the altar. Come, pass the night in sackcloth, ministers of my God. For the food offering and the drink offering are held back from the house of your God.

Wail like a virgin girded with sackcloth over the husband of her youth.

Yet even now turn to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with wailing, a statement of Jehovah.

Let the priests, ministers of Jehovah, weep between the porch and the altar; and let them say, Have pity on Your people, O Jehovah, and do not give Your inheritance to shame, for a proverb among those of the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, Where is their God?

And I will turn your feasts to mourning, and all your songs into a dirge. And I will bring up sackcloth on all loins, and baldness on every head. And I will make it like the mourning for an only son; and the end of it shall be like a day of bitterness.

And the word touched even to the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he passed his robe from him and covered himself with sackcloth and sat on the ashes.

Make yourself bald, and shear for the sons of your delight. Make your baldness increase like the eagle, for they go into exile from you.

Come now, rich ones, weep, howling over your miseries, the ones coming upon you.
