I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness. I saw your fathers as the firstfruit in the fig tree at its beginning. They came to Baal-peor and separated to shame. And they became detestable things like that which they loved.

And it happened as if it were a light thing, that he walked in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took a wife, Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, the king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal, and bowed himself to it.

and burned incense there in all high places, like the nations that Jehovah had removed from their face; and did evil things to provoke Jehovah,

The ones who make them are like them, so is everyone trusting in them.

So I gave them up to the stubbornness of their own hearts; they walked in their own counsels.

Who is this who comes up out of the wilderness like columns of smoke, sacrificing as incense myrrh and frankincense, from all powders of the merchant?

And shall be the fading flower,the glory of beauty which is on the head of the valley of fatness, like the firstripe fig before summer which the seeing one sees; while it is yet in his palm, he swallows it.

For according to the number of your cities were your gods, O Judah; yea, according to the number of the outside places of Jerusalem you have set up altars to the thing of shame, altars to burn incense to Baal.

One basket had very good figs, like first ripe figs. And the other basket had very bad figs which could not be eaten from their badness.

For the things of shame have eaten up the labor of our fathers from our youth, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.

We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covers us. For we have sinned against Jehovah our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day. And we have not obeyed the voice of Jehovah our God.

So says Jehovah, Israel, the people, the survivors of the sword, have found grace in the wilderness, I will go to give rest to him.

the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule by their hands; and My people love it so, and what will they do at the end of it?

But they rebelled against Me and would not listen to Me. They did not each man cast away the abominable idols of their eyes, and they did not forsake the idols of Egypt. And I said, I will pour out My fury against them, to complete My anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and I called My son out of Egypt.

I have known you in the wilderness, in the land of droughts.

And from there I will give her vineyards to her, and the valley of Achor for an opening of hope. And she shall answer there as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

I will not punish your daughters when they fornicate, and not your brides when they commit adultery. For they themselves go apart with ones who prostitute, and they sacrifice with temple prostitutes. The people not understanding are thrust down.

Their drink has turned them aside; fornicating they fornicate; her shields dearly love shame.

and offer a sacrifice of a thanksgiving offering that is leavened. And cry out, call out the voluntary offerings; hear them! For so you love to do, sons of Israel, a statement of the Lord Jehovah.

Woe to me! For I am like the gatherings of summer fruit, like the gleanings of the vintage. There is no cluster to eat; my soul craves the early fig.

And it shall be to you for a fringe, that you may look on it and remember all the commandments of Jehovah, and do them; and that you do not go about after your own heart and your own eyes after which you fornicate;

The firstfruits of all that is in their land, which they bring in to Jehovah shall be yours; every clean one in your house shall eat it;

Therefore what fruit did you have then over the things which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

He found him in a desert land, and in the waste, a howling wilderness. He encircled him and cared for him; He guarded him as the pupil of His eye.

They sacrificed to demons who were not God, to gods whom they did not know, new ones who came lately. Your fathers had not dreaded them.

Your eyes have seen that which Jehovah has done in Baal-peor. For Jehovah your God has destroyed them from among you, the men that followed Baal-peor.

And on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal contend against him, because he has torn down his altar.
