Woe to the one who says to the wood, Awake! To a stone in silence, Rise up, it shall teach! Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, but no breath is in its midst.

The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands;

they have ears, but they hear nothing; yea, there is no breath in their mouths.

All who serve graven images are shamed, those who boast themselves in idols; all gods bow down before Him.

Ones that died do not live; Departed spirits do not rise; thereforeYou called to account and destroyed them, and caused all memory of them to perish.

The craftsman pours out the molten image, the smelter spreads it with gold; and he casts the chains of silver.

Who has declared from the beginning, that we may know; and from before, that we may say, He is a righteous one? Yea, not one declares; yea, not one proclaims; yea, there is not one who hears your words.

And he makes a god of the rest, his carved image; he bows to it and worships, and prays to it, and says, Deliver me, for you are my god.

Those who lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver on the measuring rod; they hire one who refines and he makes it a god. They fall down; yea, they worship.

In the torrent’s smoothness is your portion; they, they are your lot; even to them you have poured a drink offering; you have offered a food offering. Should I be consoled over these?

Every man is being stupid from lack of knowledge; every refiner is put to shame by the carved image. For his molten image is a lie and no breath is in them.

For the statutes of the people are vanity. For one cuts a tree out of the forest with the axe, the work of the hands of the craftsman.

They beautify it with silver and with gold; they make them strong with nails and hammers, so that it will not wobble.

Silver beaten into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the craftsman and the hands of the goldsmith. Violet and purple is their clothing; they are all the works of skillful ones.

saying to a tree, You are my father; and to a stone, You gave us birth. For they turned their back to Me, and not the face. But in the time of their evil, they will say, Arise, and save us!

But where are your gods that you have made for yourselves? Let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your evil; for according to the number of your cities are your gods, O Judah.

So behold, the days come that I will visit on the idols of Babylon. And all her land shall be shamed, and all pierced in her shall fall in her midst.

Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold whose height was sixty cubits; its breadth, six cubits. He set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.

And if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or do homage to the golden image which you have set up.

And a decree is set out by me, that every people, nation, and language who speak anything amiss about the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, he will be made into members, and his house shall be made an outhouse. Because there is no other God who is able to deliver like this.

All accordingly did this, at that time when all the people heard the sound of the horn, the pipe, zither, the lyre, harp, and all kinds of music, all the peoples, the nations, and the languages, fell down, doing homage to the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

But you have exalted yourself against the Lord of Heaven. And they have brought the vessels of His house before you. And you, and your nobles, your wives, and your concubines have drunk wine with them. And you have praised the gods of silver, and gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, and do not know. And you have not glorified the God in whose hand is your life-breath and all your ways.

They drank wine and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, and of bronze, of iron, wood, and stone.

And the sailors were afraid, and each man cried to his god. And they threw out the ship’s articles into the sea, to lighten it from upon them. And Jonah had gone down into the recesses of the ship; and he lay down, and was fast asleep.

Therefore being offspring of God, we ought not to suppose that the Deity is like gold or silver or stone, engraved by art and the imagination of man.

And the woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, and being adorned with gold and precious stone and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominations and unclean things of her fornication.
