And it happened after Israel lived in that land, even Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father’s concubine. And Israel heard. And the sons of Jacob were twelve.
And Reuben said to them, Do not shed blood. Throw him into this pit in the desert, but do not lay a hand on him (so that he might deliver him from their hands, to return him to his father).
And Reuben replied to them, saying, Did I not speak to you, saying, Do not sin against the youth, and you did not listen? And, behold, his blood is also required.
And surely the blood of your lives I will demand. At the hand of every animal I will demand it, and at the hand of man. I will demand the soul of man at the hand of every man’s brother.
And you should not fear the ones killing the body, but not being able to kill the soul. But rather fear Him, the One being able to destroy both soul and body in Hell.
