And God said, Let luminaries be in the expanse of the heavens, to divide between the day and between the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years.
Lift up your eyes on high and see: Who has created these? Who brings out their host by number? By greatness of vigor, and mighty of power, He calls them all by names; not one is lacking.
So says Jehovah, You shall not be taught by the way of the nations; and do not be terrified by the signs of the heavens; for the nations are terrified at them.
So says Jehovah, who gives the sun for a light by day, the laws of the moon and the stars for a light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar, Jehovah of Hosts is His name.
So says the Lord Jehovah: The gate of the inner court that faces the east shall be shut the six days of work. But on the sabbath day it shall be opened, and in the day of the new moon it shall be opened.
He who created the Pleiades and Orion, and turns the deep darkness into the morning, and darkens the day into night; who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the face of the earth, Jehovah is His name;
And it shall be in that day, a statement of the Lord Jehovah, that I will make the sun to go out at noon, and I will darken the earth in light of the day.
And immediately after the affliction of those days the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
and lest you lift up your eyes towards the heavens and see the sun, and the moon and the stars, all the host of the heavens, and you be drawn away and worship them, and serve them; which Jehovah your God has allotted to all the peoples under all the heavens.
And I saw when He opened the sixth seal. And behold, a great earthquake occurred. And the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair; and the moon became as blood;
And the fourth angel sounded his trumpet. And the third part of the sun, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars, was struck, that the third part of them might be darkened, and the third part of the day might not appear; and likewise the night.
And he opened the pit of the abyss. And smoke went up out of the pit, like smoke of a great furnace. And the sun was darkened, and the air, by the smoke of the pit.
