Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which outwardly indeed appear beautiful, but within are full of bones of the dead, and of all uncleanness.
And when you fast, do not be as the hypocrites, with sullen face, for they disfigure their faces so that they may appear to men to be fasting. Truly I say to you that they have their reward.
Therefore, when you do merciful deeds, do not trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be glorified by men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.
And when you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the open streets so that they may appear to be seen of men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.
And He said to them, You are the ones justifying yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts; for the thing highly prized among men is an abomination before God.
The one speaking from himself seeks his own glory. But the one seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, this One is true, and unrighteousness is not in Him.
But some of the ones rose up from the sect of the Pharisees, having believed, saying, It is necessary to circumcise them and to command them to keep the Law of Moses.
For we dare not rank or compare ourselves with some of those commending themselves, but they measuring themselves among themselves and comparing themselves to themselves, are not perceptive.
But when I saw that they did not walk uprightly with the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before all, If you being a Jew, live heathen-like and not Jewishly, why do you compel the nations to Judaize?
For neither the ones being circumcised themselves do not even keep the Law, but they desire you to be circumcised so that they may boast in your flesh.
Which things indeed are a matter of having wisdom in self-imposed worship and humility, and severity in abuse of the body, but are not of any honor unto gratification of the flesh.
