Then I said to them, You see the evil that we are in, how Jerusalem is wasted, and its gates are burned with fire. Come and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, so that we may no longer be a reproach.
For so says Jehovah of Hosts, the God of Israel, As My anger and My fury has poured out upon the people of Jerusalem, so shall My fury pour out on you when you enter Egypt. And you shall be a curse, and a horror, and a shame, and a reproach, and you shall not see this place again.
The roads of Zion are in mourning without any going to the appointed feasts. All her gates are laid desolate; her priests are groaning, her virgins are afflicted; and she is in bitterness.
Sinning Jerusalem has sinned; on acccount of this she has become as one impure. All the ones knowing her despise her, for they saw her nakedness. Also, she groans and turns backward.
before your evil was uncovered, as at the time of the reproach of Syria’s daughters and all the ones around her, the daughters of the Philistines who hated you from round about,.
By your blood which you have poured out, you are guilty; and by your idols which you have made, you are defiled. And your days are brought near, and you have come to your years. Therefore, I have made you a reproach to the nations, and a mocking to all the lands.
For I shall make the land desolate and a waste, and the pride of her strength shall cease. And the heights of Israel shall be a waste that none will go through.
In all your dwelling places the cities shall be laid waste, and the high places shall be deserted, so that your altars may be laid waste and become guilty, and that your idols may be broken and brought to an end, and your pillars may be cut down, and your works wiped out.
O Lord, I pray, according to all Your righteousness, let Your anger and Your fury be turned back from Your city Jerusalem, Your mountain of holiness. For because of our sins and of the iniquity of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people have become a reproach to all those around us.
Therefore, on account of you, Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the house into high places of the forest.
