And Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority to cause to rise this second letter of Purim.

And when the turn of Esther had come (she being the daughter of Abihail, Mordecai’s uncle, whom he had taken to himself for his daughter) to go in to the king, she did not seek a thing except what Hegai the king’s eunuch, the keeper of the women, said. And Esther was rising in favor in the eyes of all who looked on her.

The runners went out, being burned by the king’s word. And the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink. But the city, Shushan, was perplexed.

And he wrote in the name of King Ahasuerus, and sealed with the king’s ring. And he sent letters by riders on horses, riders on stallions, royal mules, even sons of mares.

And Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters to all the Jews who were in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, near and far,

to cause to rise among them to make a feast the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same, year by year;

and that these days be remembered and acted upon in every generation and generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not pass from among the Jews, and their memory not perish from their seed.
