And in every province, at the place where the king’s word and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping and wailing. Sackcloth and ashes were spread on many.

Is the fast I choose, a day for a man to afflict his soul? To bow his head down like a bulrush, and he spreads sackcloth and ashes? Will you call this a fast and a day of delight to Jehovah?

and will make heard their voice against you, and will cry bitterly, and will cause dust to go up on their heads; they will wallow in the ashes.

And I set my face toward the Lord God, to seek by prayer and holy desires, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes.
