And it happened, in the days of Ahasuerus (he is Ahasuerus who reigned from India even to Ethiopia, over a hundred and twenty-seven provinces)

even in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, they wrote an accusation against those living in Judah and Jerusalem.

And King Ahasuerus set a tax on the land and on the isles of the sea.

And let the king appoint overseers in all the provinces of his kingdom, so that they may gather together every young woman, good of form, a virgin, to Shushan the palace, to the house of the women, to the hand of Hegai the king’s eunuch, keeper of the women, to give their purifiers.

And the king’s scribes were called at that time, in the third month, that is, the month Sivan, on the twenty-third of it. And it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded to the Jews, and to the satraps, and the governors, and the rulers of the provinces which were from India to Ethiopia, a hundred and twenty-seven provinces, to every province according to its writing, and to every people in their language, and to the Jews; according to their writing and according to their language.

And he sent the letters to all the Jews, to the hundred and twenty-seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, words of peace and truth,

Woe to the land of whirring of wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia;

And he heard about Tirhakah the king of Ethiopia, saying, He has come out to fight with you. And he heard and sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

And now I will declare the truth to you: Behold! Three kings shall stand up in Persia; and the fourth shall be rich in all greater riches. And when he is made strong by his riches he shall stir up all the kingdom of Greece.

It seemed good before Darius to set over the kingdom a hundred and twenty satraps, that they might be over the kingdom.

In the first year of Darius, the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, who was made king over the kingdom of the Chaldeans,
