And Absalom commanded his young men, saying, Now watch when Amnon’s heart is glad with wine, and when I say to you, Strike Amnon, you shall cause him to die. Do not fear. Is it not that I commanded you? Be strong, and become sons of strength.
And Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother, answered and said, Do not let my lord say, They have caused all of the young men, the king’s sons to die; for only Amnon has died. For by the mouth of Absalom it has been settled from the day of his humbling of his sister Tamar.
And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah and said, We have ten hands in the king, and we also have more in David than you. Why then did you despise us, that our word was not first to bring back our king? And the word of the men of Judah was more fierce than the word of the men of Israel.
And it happened when the sun shone, God had appointed a scorching east wind; and the sun struck Jonah’s head, so that he fainted; and he asked for his life to death. And he said, Better is my death than my life.
And God said to Jonah, Is it right your being angry and being pleasing for you over the plant? And he said, Being angry and being pleasing is right for me, even to death.
