But Jehovah your God would not listen to Balaam, and Jehovah your God turned the curse into a blessing to you, because Jehovah your God loved you.

It may be Jehovah will look on my affliction, and Jehovah will return good to me for his cursing this day.

because they did not meet the sons of Israel with bread and water, but hired Balaam against them to curse them. But our God turned the curse to a blessing.

A Psalm of Asaph. Truly God is good to Israel, to those who are of a pure heart.

As the wandering bird, as the swallow in its flying, so the causeless curse shall not come.

I have loved you, says Jehovah. But you say, In what way have You loved us? Was not Esau brother to Jacob, and I loved Jacob? A statement of Jehovah.

And the Angel of Jehovah said to Balaam, Go with the men. But only the word that I speak to you, it you shall speak. And Balaam went with the leaders of Balak.

And he sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor, to Pethor which is beside the river of the land of the sons of his people, to call for him, saying, Behold! A people has come out of Egypt. Behold! it has covered the eye of the earth, and it is sitting next to me.

He has crouched; he has lain down like a lion, and like a lioness; who shall rouse him up? Blessed is everyone that blesses you, and cursed is everyone that curses you.

Indeed, as regards the gospel, ones hostile toward you, but as regards the election, beloved on account of the fathers.

What then shall we say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

even as it has been written, “I loved Jacob, but I hated Esau.” Mal. 1:2, 3

For the lightness of our present affliction works out for us an eternal weight of glory, surpassing moment by surpassing moment;

as the sons of Esau who live in Seir, and the Moabites who live in Ar, have done to me, until I have crossed over the Jordan, to the land which Jehovah our God is giving to us.

Yes, He loves the peoples; all His holy ones are in Your hand; and they sit down at Your feet; He lifts up each at Your words.

And because He loved your fathers, and chose their seed after them, and brought you out with His presence, with His great power, out of Egypt,

And I was not willing to listen to Balaam, and he greatly blessed you. And I delivered you out of his hand.
