The virgin of Israel has fallen, and will not rise up again; she lies forsaken on her land; there is no one raising her up.

In the days of Pekah the king of Israel, Tiglath-pileser the king of Assyria came and took Ijon, and Abel-beth-maachah, and Janoah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali, and removed them to Assyria.

And they left all the commands of Jehovah their God and made for themselves molten images, two calves, and made an Asherah, and bowed to all the host of the heavens, and served Baal,

Prepare for the slaughter of his sons, for the iniquity of their fathers; that they may not rise and possess the land and fill the face of the earth with cities.

Like a drunken one, the earth is staggering, staggering! And it rocks to and fro like a hut. And its transgression is heavy on it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.

For Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah has fallen, because their tongue and their doings toward Jehovah are to rebel against the eyes of His glory.

this is the word Jehovah has spoken about him: The virgin, the daughter of Zion, has despised you, mocking you; the daughter of Jerusalem has shaken the head behind you.

who brings out chariot and horse, force and power. They shall lie down together; they shall not rise; they are quenched; they are snuffed out like the wick.

And you shall speak this Word to them: Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and do not let them cease. For the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great break, with a very grievous blow.

So Jehovah says this: Ask now among the nations, Who has heard things like these? The virgin of Israel has done a dreadful thing.

saying to a tree, You are my father; and to a stone, You gave us birth. For they turned their back to Me, and not the face. But in the time of their evil, they will say, Arise, and save us!

Again I will build you, and you shall be built again, O virgin of Israel. You will again put on your tambourines and go forth in the dance of those making merry.

Ruin on ruin has been called; for the whole land is devastated. Suddenly my tents are devastated, my curtains in a moment.

And the proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up. And I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall burn up everything round about him.

And you shall say, In this way Babylon shall sink and shall not rise from the evil that I am bringing on it, and they shall be weary. So far are the words of Jeremiah.

And you shall say to them, So says Jehovah, Shall they fall and not rise up? Or shall one turn back and not return?

For death has come into our windows, entering into our fortresses, to cut off the children from the outside, the young men from the broad spaces.

Shall I not call them to account for these things? a statement of Jehovah. Or shall not My soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

What can I testify for you? To what will I compare you, O daughter of Jerusalem? To what shall I liken you that I may comfort you, O virgin daughter of Zion? For your breaking is great like the sea! Who can heal you?

O Israel, return to Jehovah your God, for you have fallen by your iniquity.

After two days He will bring us to life. In the third day He will raise us up, and we shall live before Him.

Those swearing by the guilt of Samaria, and say, As your God lives, O Dan! And, As the way of Beer-sheba lives! Even they shall fall, and not rise up again.

In that day I will raise up the booth of David that has fallen, and I will wall up its breaks. And I will raise up its ruins, and I will build it as the days of old;
