then the city was broken up, and by night all the men of war went by way of the gate, between the two walls by the king’s garden; and the Chaldeans were against the city round about; and the king went the way toward the Arabah.

And they went after them to the Jordan. And, behold, all the way was full of garments and vessels that the Syrians had thrown away in their haste. And the messengers returned and told the king.

In that day a man shall cast out his silver, and his golden idols which they made for him to worship to the hole of the burrowers and to the bats;

For in that day each man shall despise his silver idols and his golden idols, which your hands have made for you; a sin.

And the city was breached, and all the men of war fled, and went out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king’s garden. And the Chaldeans lay all around the city. And they went by the way of the Arabah.

And the prince who is among them shall bear on his shoulder in the dark and go forth through the wall. They shall dig to bring out by it. He shall cover his face so that he does not look with the eye on the earth.

Before their eyes dig for yourself through the wall, and bear out through it.

Therefore now they shall go into exile with the first of the exiles, and the feast of those spreading out shall cease.

Also their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of Jehovah. But all the earth shall be devoured by the fire of His jealousy. For He shall make a complete, yea, a speedy end of all those living on the land.

For what will a man be benefited if he should gain the whole world, but forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give as an exchange for his soul?

Gilead remained beyond the Jordan; and why did Dan stay in ships? Asher sat at the shore of the seas, and remained by his havens.
