I turned back and saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift ones, and the battle not to the mighty ones, and not even bread to the wise one, and not even riches to discerning ones; and not even favor to ones knowing. For time and occurrence happen to them all.
And it happened when Zedekiah, king of Judah and all the men of war saw them, they fled and went out from the city by night, the way of the king’s garden, by the gate between the two walls. And he went by the way of the Arabah.
So says Jehovah, Do not let the wise man glory in his wisdom, and do not let the mighty one glory in his might. Do not let the rich man glory in his riches.
