And I have come down to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and broad land, to a land flowing with milk and honey; to the place of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Jebusite.
And they did not say, Where is Jehovah who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us in the wilderness, in a land of deserts and of pits, in a dry land and death shade, in a land that not a man has passed through, and not a man has lived there?
Are you not like the sons of the Cushites to Me, O sons of Israel? a statement of Jehovah. Have I not brought Israel up out of the land of Egypt, and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?
And they sent out an evil report of the land which they had spied out to the sons of Israel, saying, The land into which we passed, to spy it out, is a land eating up those living in it. And all the people we saw in its midst were men of stature.
And Jehovah’s anger was hot against Israel. And `e made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the eyes of Jehovah was destroyed.
But God turned and gave them over to serve the host of the heaven, as it is written in the book of the Prophets: “Did you not bring victims and sacrifices to Me forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
And your infants, of whom you said, They are a prey, and your sons who today have no knowledge of good or evil, they shall go in there, and I will give it to them, and they shall possess it.
For Jehovah your God has blessed you with all the work of your hands; He has known your walking through this great wilderness. Jehovah your God has been with you these forty years; you have not lacked a thing.
And I brought you into the land of the Amorite who lived beyond the Jordan. And they fought with you, and I gave them into your hand, and you possessed their land. And I destroyed them before you.
