And all the people came to cause David to eat food while it was yet day. But David swore, saying, So may God do to me, and still more, if I taste bread or anything before the sun goes in.

And they mourned and wept and fasted until the evening, for Saul, and for his son Jonathan, and for the people of Jehovah, and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.

And the elders of his house rose up toward him, to raise him up from the earth. But he was not willing; and he ate no bread with them.

Your hands were not bound, and your feet were not brought into bronze fetters. As one falls before sons of evil, you have fallen! And all the people wept again over him.

And all the people took notice, and it was good in their eyes. As to all the king did, it was good in the eyes of all the people.

May God do so to Abner, and add to it so, if I do not do to David as Jehovah has sworn,

And all the men of strength arose and carried away Saul’s body, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh. And they buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh; and fasted seven days.

And not shall they break for them in mourning, to comfort him for ones who died. And not shall they give them the cup of consolation to drink for one’s father or one’s mother.

Groan quietly, be silent; do not make a mourning for her who died. Bind your turban on you, and put your sandals on your feet, and do not cover the mustache and do not eat the bread of men.

And you shall do as I have done. You shall not cover over the mustache, and you shall not eat the bread of men.

And the sons of Israel went up and wept before Jehovah until the evening, and asked of Jehovah, saying, Shall I again draw near to battle with the sons of my brother Benjamin? And Jehovah said, Go up against him.

And all the sons of Israel went up, even all the people, and came to Beth-el, and wept. And they sat there before Jehovah, and fasted on that day until the evening, and caused burnt offerings and peace offerings to ascend before Jehovah.

Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May Jehovah do to me, and more so, if anything but death part you and me.

And he said, What is the word which He has spoken to you? Please do not hide it from me. May God do so to you, and more also, if you keep back anything from me of all the words that He spoke to you.
