And he refused to turn aside. And Abner struck him in the fifth rib with the butt of the spear. And the spear came out from behind him; and he fell there, and died in his place. And it happened that all who came to the place, there where Asahel fell and died, they stood still.

And Joab and Abishai ran after Abner, and the sun was going. And they came to the hill of Ammah which is before Giah, by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.

And Amasa was not on guard against the sword in Joab’s hand. And he struck him with it in the fifth rib, and poured out his bowels to the ground, and did not strike him again. And he died. And Joab and his brother Abishai pursued Sheba the son of Bichri.

And Abner returned to Hebron. And Joab turning him aside into the middle of the gate, to speak with him privately, even he struck him in the fifth rib there, and he died, because of the blood of his brother Asahel.

And Joab and his brother Abishai killed Abner because he had caused their brother Asahel to die in Gibeon, in battle.

And they came to the middle of the house, bringing wheat. And they struck him to the fifth rib. And Rechab and his brother Baanah escaped.

And the king and his men went to Jerusalem, to the Jebusites, those dwelling in the land. And one spoke to David, saying, You shall not come in here except the blind ones and the lame ones will turn you away, saying, David cannot come in here.
