And the king rose up and sat in the gate. And they told it to all the people, saying, Behold, the king is sitting in the gate. And all the people came in before the king. And Israel had fled, each man to his tents.

And Absalom rose up and stood by the side of the way of the gate. And it happened that every man who had a cause to come to the king for judgment, Absalom called to him and said, Of what city are you? And he said, Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel.

And they took Absalom and threw him into a great pit in the forest, and set up a very great heap of stones over him. And all Israel fled, each man to his tent.

And David was sitting between the two gates. And the watchman went to the roof of the gate and lifted up his eyes and saw; and, behold, a man running by himself!

And Jehoram passed over to Zair, and all the chariots with him. And it happened, he rose up by night and struck Edom; he and the commanders of the chariots had turned around him. And the people fled to their tents.

And the Philistines fought, and Israel was stricken. And they each one fled to his tent. And the slaughter was very great, and thirty thousand footmen of Israel fell.
