And David said to Joab, and to all the people with him, Tear your garments and gird on sackcloth, and mourn before Abner. And King David walked after the bier.
And it happened, when the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his garments and said, Am I God, to kill and to keep alive, that this one is sending to me to take away his leprosy from a man? For consider now, and see, for he is seeking an occasion with me.
Because your heart is tender, and you were humbled before God when you heard His words on this place, and on the those living in it, and were humbled before Me, and have torn your garments and wept before Me; I have even heard also, a statement of Jehovah.
And Mordecai understood all that was done, and Mordecai tore his clothes and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the middle of the city, and cried with a loud and bitter cry.
And tear your heart, and not your clothes; and turn to Jehovah your God. For He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and He has pity concerning you.
And Joshua tore his clothing, and fell on his face to the earth before the ark of Jehovah until the evening, he and the elders of Israel. And they threw dust on their heads.
