Do we begin again to commend ourselves? Or do we, as some, need commendatory letters to you, or commendatory ones from you?

And he having intended to go through into Achaia, having been encouraged, the brothers wrote to the disciples to welcome him; who, arriving, helped much the ones who were believing through grace.

But I commend our sister Phoebe to you, being a servant of the assembly in Cenchrea,

Even as I also please all in all things, not seeking my own advantage, but that of the many, that they may be saved.

And when I arrive, whomever you approve through these epistles, I will send to carry your gift of grace to Jerusalem.

According to God’s grace given to me, as a wise master builder, I laid a foundation, but another builds on it. But let each one look how he builds on it.

For if you should have myriads of tutors in Christ, yet not many fathers; for I fathered you in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

For we dare not rank or compare ourselves with some of those commending themselves, but they measuring themselves among themselves and comparing themselves to themselves, are not perceptive.

For not the one commending himself is the one approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.

For even if I also somewhat more abundantly may boast about our authority, which the Lord gave us for building up and not for your destruction, I will not be put to shame,

Boasting, I have become foolish. You compelled me. For I ought to be commended by you, for I lacked nothing of the exceedingly great apostles, even though I am nothing.

Again, do you think we are defending ourselves to you? We speak before God in Christ, but in all things for your building up, beloved.

For we are not as the many, peddling the Word of God; but as of sincerity, but as of God. We speak in Christ before God.

For we do not again commend ourselves to you, but are giving you occasion of glorying on our behalf, that you may have it toward the ones boasting before the face and not in heart.
