And he arrived in Derbe and Lystra. And behold, a certain disciple by name Timothy was there, the son of a certain believing Jewish woman, but his father was a Greek.

And some of the Epicurean and of the Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, What may this seed-picker wish to say? And these others, He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign demons (because he proclaimed Jesus and the resurrection to them).

And all Athenians and the strangers dwelling there have leisure for nothing else than to say and to hear newer things.

Professing to be wise ones, they became foolish

Much according to every way. For firstly, indeed, that they were entrusted with the words of God.

But we speak wisdom among the perfect, but not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, the ones being caused to cease.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God; for it is written, “He is taking the wise ones in their own craftiness.” Job 5:13

Let no one rule against you, willing in humility and worship of the angels, intruding into things which he has not seen, being puffed up by the mind of his flesh without cause,

Watch that there will not be one abducting you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the elements of the world, and not according to Christ.

so as for us to boast ourselves in you in the assemblies of God for your patient endurance and faith in all your persecutions, and the afflictions which you endure,

So, then, brothers, stand firm and strongly hold the teachings you were taught, whether by word or by our letter.

according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I was entrusted.

to Timothy, a true child in the faith: Grace, mercy, peace from God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.

nor to pay attention to myths and to endless genealogies, which provide questionings, rather than a stewardship of God, the one being in faith,

from which certain ones deviating turned aside to empty talking,

knowing this, that Law is not laid down for a righteous one, but for lawless and insubordinate ones, for ungodly and sinful ones, for unholy and profane ones, for slayers of fathers and slayers of mothers, for murderers,

But refuse the profane and old-womanish myths. And exercise yourself to godliness.

But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness.

that you keep the commandment spotless, beyond reproach, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ;

You, therefore, my child, be empowered by grace in the Christ Jesus.

But shun profane, empty babblings, for they will go on to more ungodliness,

not listening to Jewish myths and commandments of men, having turned away from the truth.

to Titus, a true child according to our common faith: Grace, mercy, peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.

clinging to the faithful Word according to the teaching, that he may be able both to encourage by sound doctrine and to convict the ones contradicting.

But keep back from foolish questionings and genealogies and arguments and quarrels of law, for they are unprofitable and vain.

Therefore, remember how you received and heard, and keep, and repent. If, therefore, you do not watch, I will come upon you like a thief and you will not know what hour I come upon you, not at all.
