For when they say, Peace and safety! Then sudden destruction comes upon them, like the birth-pain to the one having babe in womb, and they shall not escape, not one.
And he who lives in this coast shall say in that day, Behold, this has become of our hope to which we fled for help there, to be delivered from before the king of Assyria; and, How shall we escape?
And the host of ones estranged to you shall be as fine powder, and as chaff passing, the host of terrifying ones; and it will happen suddenly, instantly;
So this iniquity shall be to you as a broken section falling, like the bulging out of a high wall, the breaking of which comes suddenly, in an instant.
But evil shall come on you; you shall not know its origin. And mischief shall fall on you; you shall not be able to cover it. And ruin shall come on you suddenly, you shall not know.
But these two things shall suddenly come to you in one day: loss of children, and widowhood; according to completeness they come on you, for your many sorceries, for the multitude of your great spells.
What will you say when He calls you to account? For you taught them to be chiefs over you for a head. Will not birth pangs seize you like a woman bearing?
Rejecting have You rejected Judah? Or has Your soul loathed Zion? Why have You stricken us and no healing is for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a healing time, but, behold, terror!
For I have heard a voice as of one weakened, the anguish as one bearing her first child, the voice of Zion’s daughter gasping and spreading her palms, saying, Woe is to me now, for my soul faints because of murderers!
Because, even because they made My people go astray, saying, Peace! and there was no peace. And he builds a wall, and, behold, others daubed it with lime.
The woman has grief when she bears, because her hour came, but when she bears the child, she no longer remembers the distress, because of the joy that a man was born into the world.
“Behold, the despisers,” “and marvel,” “and perish, because I work a work in your days,” a work which you will “not believe, not even if someone fully declares it to you,” not one. Hab. 1:5
and it happens when he hears the words of this curse, that he should bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, even though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to snatch away the drunken with the thirsty.
and to a festal gathering and an assembly of the first-born ones having been enrolled in Heaven; and to God the Judge of all, and to spirits of just ones who have been perfected;
how shall we escape while neglecting so great a salvation? Which having received a beginning to be spoken through the Lord, was confirmed to us by the ones having heard.
