Distress is to me over you, my brother Jonathan. You were very delightful to me; your love was wonderful to me, more than the love of women.

A friend loves at every time, and a brother is born for distress.

A man of friends may be broken up, but there is a Lover who sticks closer than a brother.

And it happened, when he finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David; and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

And Jonathan and David cut a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
