And also, you know that which Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, that which he did to the two army commanders of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner, and to Amasa the son of Jether, that he murdered them, and shed the blood of war in peace, and put the blood of war on his girdle that was on his loins and in his sandals that were on his feet;

And Absalom had set Amasa over the army instead of Joab. And Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Ithra the Israelite, who had gone in to Abigail, the daughter of Nahash, the sister of Zeruiah, the mother of Joab.

And the man said to Joab, Yes, though I weighed a thousand silverlings in my hand, I would not put forth my hand to the king’s son. For in our ears the king commanded you, and Abishai, and Ittai saying, Take heed, you who go against the youth, against Absalom.

And Joab said, I will not wait this way before you. And he took three darts in his hand and struck them into Absalom’s heart while he was alive, in the midst of the oak.

And the king commanded Joab, and Abishai, and Ittai, saying, For my sake deal gently with the young man, with Absalom. And all the people heard as the king commanded the commanders concerning Absalom.

And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and David’s servants went out. And they met by the pool of Gibeon together and sat down, these by the pool on this side, and those by the pool on that side.

And there were three sons of Zeruiah there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel. And Asahel was swift with his feet, like one of the gazelles which is in the field.

And Amasa was not on guard against the sword in Joab’s hand. And he struck him with it in the fifth rib, and poured out his bowels to the ground, and did not strike him again. And he died. And Joab and his brother Abishai pursued Sheba the son of Bichri.

And Abner returned to Hebron. And Joab turning him aside into the middle of the gate, to speak with him privately, even he struck him in the fifth rib there, and he died, because of the blood of his brother Asahel.

And I am weak today, though anointed king. And these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too hard for me. May Jehovah reward the doer of evil according to his evil!

And his words were with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest. And they helped, going after Adonijah.

And Jehovah shall turn back his blood on his own head, who has fallen on two men more righteous and better than he, and murdered them with the sword; and my father David not knowing: Abner the son of Ner, the commander of the army of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, the commander of the army of Judah.

Also on your skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents; I have not found them breaking in, but on all these.

Were they ashamed when they made a disgusting thing? Yea, they were not at all ashamed, nor did they know to blush. So they shall fall among those falling. At the time I call them to account, says Jehovah.

And John himself had his clothing from hairs of a camel, and a belt of leather about his loin. And his food was locusts and wild honey.

Cursed is he who strikes his neighbor secretly! And all the people shall say, Amen!
