And Jehovah shall strike Israel as the reed waves in the water, and shall pluck up Israel from off this good land that He gave to their fathers. And He shall scatter them beyond the River, because they have made their Asherahs, provoking Jehovah to anger.
And the king of Syria’s servants said to him, Their God is a god of the hills; on account of this they were stronger than we; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely, we shall be stronger than they?
And they left all the commands of Jehovah their God and made for themselves molten images, two calves, and made an Asherah, and bowed to all the host of the heavens, and served Baal,
And they forsook the house of Jehovah, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherahs and the idols; and there was wrath on Judah and Jerusalem because of this guilt.
For long ago you broke your yoke and tore up your bonds. And you said, I will not pass by, when on every high hill and under every green tree you lay down like one doing adultery.
Only know your iniquity, that you have transgressed against Jehovah your God and have scattered your ways to strangers under every green tree, and you have not obeyed My voice, a statement of Jehovah.
And you shall know that I am Jehovah when their slain shall be in the midst of their idols round about their altars, on every high hill, in all the tops of the mountains, and under every green tree, and under every leafy oak, the place where they gave there a soothing aroma to all their idols.
And say, Mountains of Israel, hear the Word of the Lord Jehovah: So says the Lord Jehovah to the mountains, and to the hills, to the ravines, and to the valleys, Behold, I, even I will bring a sword on you, and I will destroy your high places.
In all your dwelling places the cities shall be laid waste, and the high places shall be deserted, so that your altars may be laid waste and become guilty, and that your idols may be broken and brought to an end, and your pillars may be cut down, and your works wiped out.
Israel is a luxuriant vine; he bears fruit for himself. According to the plenty of his fruit he has increased the altars; as the goodness of the land they have made goodly pillars.
You shall not make idols to yourselves; and you shall not set up for yourselves graven images, or a memorial pillar. And you shall not place any stone image in your land, to bow yourselves to it; for I am Jehovah your God.
Destroying you shall destroy all the places where the nations which you are dispossessing served their gods, on the high mountains, and on the hills, and under every leafy tree.
