Only I will not tear away all the kingdom; I will give one tribe to your son for my servant David’s sake, and for the sake of Jerusalem that I have chosen.

And it happened, Jehovah raised an adversary to Solomon, Hadad the Edomite; he was of the seed of the king in Edom.

And he shall have the one tribe for my servant David’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel.

And for this I will humble the seed of David; but not all the days.

As to the sons of Israel, those living in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

And Israel transgressed against the house of David to this day.

And it happened when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, that they sent and called him to the company, and caused him to reign over all Israel; none followed after the house of David except the tribe of Judah only.

for Your eyes are open toward this house night and day, toward the place of which You have said, My name shall be there; to listen to the prayer which Your servant prays toward this place.

And Jehovah was gracious to them, and pitied them, and turned toward them, for the sake of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and was not willing to destroy them, and not to cast them out from His presence as yet.

so that Jehovah was very angry against Israel, and turned them away from His face; not one was left, only the tribe of Judah alone.

For I will defend this city, to save it, for My own sake, and for the sake of My servant David.

And he built altars in the house of Jehovah, of which Jehovah had said, In Jerusalem I will put My name.

And Jehovah said, I will also turn away Judah from My face, as I turned away Israel, and I will reject this city that I have chosen, Jerusalem, and the house of which I have said, My name shall be there.

And Jehovah was not willing to destroy Judah, for His servant David’s sake, as He had said to give him a lamp to his sons forever.

And Jehovah was not willing to destroy the house of David, for the sake of the covenant that He made with David, and as He had spoken, to give a lamp to him and to his sons all the days.

A Song of Ascents. O Jehovah, remember David with all his afflictions,

I will make the horn of David to sprout; I have arranged a lamp for My Anointed.

Lord, where are Your former kindnesses that You swore to David in Your faithfulness?

What then shall one answer to the messengers of the nation? That Jehovah has founded Zion, and the afflicted one of His people shall trust in it.

For Zion’s sake, I will not be silent; and for Jerusalem’s sake, I will not rest; until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a burning torch.

And do not give a rest to Him until He sets up and makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

There is no end to the increase of His dominion and of peace on the throne of David, and on His kingdom, to order it, and to sustain it with judgment and with righteousness, from now and to eternity. The zeal of Jehovah of Hosts will do this.

And it shall be the place which Jehovah your God shall choose to cause His name to dwell there, there you shall bring all that I am commanding you, your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the heave offering of your hand, and all your choice free-will offerings which you vow to Jehovah.

But you shall seek to the place which Jehovah your God shall choose out of all your tribes; for you shall seek His dwelling, to put His name there. And you shall go there.

It is not for your righteousness or for the uprightness of your heart that you go to possess their land. But Jehovah your God is dispossessing them from before you because of the wickedness of these nations; and in order to establish the Word which Jehovah has sworn to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
