And the words of her older son Esau were told to Rebekah. And she sent and called her younger son Jacob. And she said to him, Behold! Your brother Esau is going to ease himself on you, to kill you.

These are the generations of Jacob: Joseph, a son of seventeen years, was feeding the flock with his brothers, with Bilhah’s sons and with Zilpah’s sons, his father’s wives. And he was a youth. And Joseph brought an evil report of them to their father.

Only by pride comes strife, but with those taking counsel wisdom.

The lips of a foolish one enter into strife, and his mouth calls for strokes.

For I fear lest somehow, coming, I not find you as I wish, and I be found by you such as you do not wish; lest somehow there be strifes, envyings, angers, intrigues, evil speakings, slanders, puffings up, disturbances;

But if you bite and devour one another, be careful that you are not consumed by one another.

idolatry, sorcery, enmities, fightings, jealousies, angers, intrigues, dissensions, heresies,

Let us not become self-conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Do all things without murmurings and disputings,

he has been puffed up, understanding nothing, but is sick concerning questions and disputes, out of which comes envy, strife, evil-speakings, evil suspicions,

But keep back from foolish questionings and genealogies and arguments and quarrels of law, for they are unprofitable and vain.
